Project description

Construction of a new hydropower project within an existing water diversion scheme in the Grand-St-Bernard region in Switzerland which main characteristics are the following:

  • Penstock = length 350 m, diameter 700/800 mm,
  • Head H = 157 m,
  • Discharge Q = 1.5 m3/s,
  • Output P = 2.1 MW.

The main challenges of the project were the following:

  • Minimize the environmental impacts,
  • Minimize the water losses on the existing water diversion scheme,
  • Maximize the energy production of the new hydropower project with the addition of a second smaller turbine designed for low flows.
