Alongside its project partners, BG contributed to the development of the design of a new wastewater treatment plant at Valenciennes, which was required to replace the existing facility. The new plant, with a capacity of 120 000 equivalent inhabitants, was required to have a positive operating balance, both from a financial and an energy standpoint.
To this end, close attention was paid to all aspects of the detailed design of the facility, including the building envelope, lighting, ventilation and the processes implemented. This drive for excellence applied to both the administrative and the technical buildings.
In this way, the proposed project was able to meet the ambitious objectives of the client, in particular by:
- Achieving significant reductions in both thermal and electrical consumption :
Administrative building achieved Minergie standard A, specific aeration and anaerobic tanks to optimise their hydraulic profiles, identification of optimised processes for the facility and appropriate selection of the pumps, etc.
- Enabling a high level of renewable energy production :
Co-digestion of sludge and organic waste, thermal recovery of purified water for the production of hot and cold energy, production of electricity using biogas and photovoltaic panels, recovery of phosphorus, sand etc.
In this way, the facility produces annually an energy surplus equivalent to 67 tankers each of 35m3 !
Assistance with the design of a wastewater treatment plant, which produces more energy than it uses.
