Last Thursday, the 14th November, six children of BG employees and six girls sent by the Office for Equality in the Vaud Canton have participated in this JOM at BG.
Organized every year by the Office for Equality, this day proposes to boys and girls of middle school (7th to 9th grades) to discover professions without gender bias.
The children were welcomed by Guido Roelstra, head of the department for Building Management – Structures and Engineering Works. He presented them BG Consulting Engineers, its origins, its projects, its different fields of application, etc.
Drafter in civil engineering
After a general presentation of the work of a drafter in civil engineering by one of our draftsmen, Gary Bosset, several other draftsmen and apprentices talked to the children about their background and the choices that lead them to their job.
A WWTP to visit
At the end of these presentations, the children joined their parents at their desks and then had lunch together. The afternoon was booked for the visit of an emblematic BG project: the Vidy wastewater treatment plan. Pierre Cattoen, BG project manager, guided this interesting and constructive visit.
Back at the office for a snack, the children looked thrilled.
BG and its employees are looking forward to next year's JOM for another event pursuing a future with gender equality.
