Another airport success for BG

Published on 02.07.2017

Through its Building France unit (BFR), BG has won the prime contractorship for the project to expand facilities at the Marseille Provence airport’s low-cost terminal, known as MP2. To do so, it joined forces with Carta Associés (architects), iTarmac (structural engineering consultants) and Baglogics (baggage-handling specialists). After its recent success at the Istres aviation centre, BG is flying high!

In the last ten years, the Marseille Provence airport has gone from 58 to 100 direct destinations and from six to over eight million passengers. The MP2 terminal, which houses low-cost airlines, needs an upgrade to attract new clients, carriers and services – whilst remaining faithful to the concept of affordability. Indoor spaces will be refurbished in order to provide greater comfort for persons travelling.

Upgrading the low-cost terminal will involve an extension of the existing pier and the construction of two brand-new departure lounges. Also foreseen is the creation of two additional aircraft berths, a complete overhaul of the six current boarding areas and an expansion of the baggage sorting zone, where three 40-metre conveyor belts will be installed.

Thanks to precise scheduling, the Marseille Provence airport will remain open whilst renovation is under way. The project is expected to be completed within the next couple of years.
