Two New Segments for the Highway A16

Published on 19.03.2012

During the month of November last year, two new segments of the A16 highway opened between Boncourt (at the French-Swiss border) and Bienne.

Federal Councillor Doris Leuthard opened on November 11, 2011, the 4.6-km Bure-Boncourt segment at a ceremony held in the Neu Bois tunnel and a few days later, on November 25, the Bernese Councillor of States Barbara Egger-Jenzer and Federal Highway Office Vice-Director Juerg Roethlisberger, opened the 2.7-km Moutier Nord – Moutier Sud segment to traffic. The 1200-metre-long Moutier tunnel is the main engineering feat of this segment.

On these segments, especially their two tunnels, BG substantially contributed to the studies and managed the work for the operating and safety equipment.

Four segments remain to be opened, after which—by 2016—it will finally be possible to cross the entire historic Jura area on expressways.
