Montpellier City Life: BG contributes its Smart Building expertise

Published on 05.04.2017

The first Montpellier City Life forum on smart homes took place on March 10, 2017. It was organised by the regional daily Objectif Languedoc-Roussillon on the occasion of a local trade fair. BG’s Jean-Paul Gandolfi, head of the Building France unit, and Loïc Lepage, who leads the Territorial Energy Planning group, were among the twelve experts invited to discuss emerging technologies and their implementation in the field of Smart Building.

There are many advantages to Smart Building, which allows for optimal control of energy consumption. Thanks to automated heat, light, and appliance management, and sometimes even ventilation and brightness, it is possible to achieve significant energy savings. The key to good building management system lies in coordinating the interoperability of information systems. In his presentation, Jean-Paul Gandolfi alluded to the notion of data pooling, which is increasingly employed in the building sector, as it is in mobility where it enables, for instance, users to find parking spots more easily.

In discussing the link between Smart Building and Smart Networks, Loïc Lepage underscored the importance of territory-wide energy planning that integrates all actors (engineers, planners, energy operators, local authorities, etc.). In order to seize every opportunity for innovation, one should not reason only on the scale of a building, but take the wider perimeter into account. From a digital perspective, opportunities exist to optimise Smart Building data, integrating them better and making them available in usable formats for all actors, particularly architects.
