BG helps modernize Europe's largest water treatment plant

Published on 13.10.2011

The Achères wastewater treatment plant treats all sewage from the city of Paris, or 2.4 million m3 of wastewater per day. This sewage treatment plant is the largest in Europe and second only to that of Chicago worldwide.

As part of the Ile-de-France region’s water treatment plan to improve the water quality of the Seine, the Achères sewage treatment plant is receiving major upgrades.

This vast project will ensure compliance with European requirements for discharges into the environment, modernise the plant site and preserve the quality of life of local residents.

Under the European Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive (UWWTD), all major French wastewater treatment plants must be brought into compliance no later than the end of 2011.
