From January 2nd to January 6th 2012, the public Swiss Television Station TSR broadcasted a series of reports titled “Introducing Today’s Best Swiss Companies”. The series presented a sampling of five successful Swiss companies that are not well known to the general public. The BG Group was chosen to be one of them.
The report about BG illustrated the Group's primary mission of using a multidisciplinary approach to build a sustainable living environment.
The reporters from TSR selected the Chambery wastewater treatment plant — an ambitious undertaking for which BG is the prime contractor — to exemplify the Group’s expertise in one of its specialities, namely water and the environment. Environmental engineer Vincent Francheteau talks about this project, which began in 2005 and is to be completed in mid-2013.
Also mentioned were the M2 subway from Lausanne, the Rolex Learning Center and the CEVA rail line, large-scale projects that give a representative idea of the Group’s other areas of activity, namely infrastructure, construction and energy.
In an interview, BG Group CEO Laurent Vulliet described the role of engineers in the society, the Group’s objectives, and its very distinctive shareholder structure. The Group’s capital is held entirely by its employees, ensuring complete independence in both its finances and its views—a not inconsiderable advantage for a consulting firm.
